About Us
David Sanders is the founder and President of ecoLogic: smart building solutions.
The Sanders were homesteaders in Colorado in the 1930’s and David spent many summers here with his family while growing up. The pristine beauty of the mountains, rivers and forests had a profound effect on him and he became determined to make Colorado his full-time home.
During college, David undertook rigorous study of Shaolin Martial Arts and accompanied his team to China to train with the Beijing Special Police Team, the Chinese Olympic Team at the Olympic Training Facility and with monks at the Shaolin Temple Monastery. David graduated from the University of South Alabama in 1993, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry.
After marrying his wife, Catherine, David finally returned to live in Colorado- first in Boulder, then Estes Park and currently Windsor. Upon arriving in Estes, David became involved in the complete restoration of the Manor House of the Stanley Hotel and was captivated by the art of building. He spent several years working with some of the most highly skilled carpenters in Colorado. David began his own construction company, Thor’s Hammer, in 1998. Thor’s Hammer has a portfolio of custom homes and commercial projects that one would expect to find from someone of considerably more years. David’s thoughtful attention to detail, uncompromising standards and unique level of personal motivation ensured the success of Thor’s Hammer.
As often happens, after the births of his three children David began to evaluate the direction of things. He analyzed what was working in his business and what was not. After having experimented with emerging green materials and technologies on some of his jobs, David became increasingly convinced that existing building practices were not sustainable, cost-effective, healthy or nearly as energy efficient as they could be. The inherent wastefulness and lack of sufficient utilization of Colorado’s abundant sun and wind just did not make any sense. So David began to transition his projects towards a mindset of conservation, peak efficiency and overall healthfulness- for the builders, residents and the earth.
David gained his Green Advantage Certification and the transition was complete with the launch of ecoLogic: smart building solutions in 2009. Combining the best of green industry’s innovations with his craftsman ideals and skill, David is able to offer services that are in line with a philosophy of preserving for our children and grandchildren all that is pristine about Colorado and our world.
